Your domain and your hosting are related, but they are not the same thing. Understanding the difference makes website setup and troubleshooting much easier.
What is a domain?
A domain is the human-readable address people type to reach your site. A registrar such as GoDaddy can register and manage ownership of a domain.
What is hosting?
Hosting is the server environment where the website files, database and application run. A host such as Hostinger provides the infrastructure that serves the site.
What does DNS do?
DNS connects the domain name to the services that should answer for it. Nameservers tell the internet which DNS provider is authoritative. Records such as A, AAAA, CNAME, MX and TXT then route web, email and verification traffic.
Can the domain and hosting be with different companies?
Yes. This is normal. You can keep the domain registered with one company and point it to hosting at another. The key is to avoid accidentally deleting email or verification records when changing DNS.
Which setup is better?
Using one provider can be simpler. Separating registration and hosting can give you more independence. Neither is inherently better; good account security, backups and clear ownership matter more.
