A small business website needs to do a few things well: explain what you offer, build trust, make it easy to contact or buy, and load reliably on a phone.
1. Decide what the site must do
List the primary action you want a visitor to take: call, request a quote, book, buy, subscribe or visit a location. Build the navigation and homepage around that action.
2. Choose a domain
Use a short, memorable domain that matches your business. Keep ownership in an account you control. If your registrar is separate from your host, you can point DNS to the hosting provider without transferring registration.
3. Choose the platform
For a content-heavy site, WordPress offers a mature publishing system and a large ecosystem. Hosted builders can be quicker for very small brochure sites. Compare the real maintenance burden, not just the launch speed.
4. Set up hosting and HTTPS
Your host should provide SSL so the site loads over HTTPS. Providers such as Hostinger offer managed WordPress hosting; compare current plans, backups and resource limits on the provider’s site.
5. Build the essential pages
- Home
- Services or products
- About
- Contact
- Privacy
- Terms where appropriate
6. Make mobile the default
Test every important action on a narrow screen. Buttons should be easy to tap, text should not require zooming, menus should be obvious and tables should not break the layout.
7. Add measurement
Connect Google Search Console to understand indexing and search queries. Add analytics only if it supports a real business decision, and configure consent where legally required.
8. Launch, then improve
Do not wait for a perfect site. Launch a credible, fast version, then improve it using search data, customer questions and conversion behaviour.
