Google Search Console helps you see whether Google can discover and index your WordPress pages. For a new site, the goal is simple: verify ownership, submit a valid sitemap, make sure important pages are crawlable and then give Google time.
1. Verify the whole domain
A Domain property covers protocols and subdomains and uses DNS verification. Add the TXT verification record at the DNS provider that actually manages the domain and keep the record after verification.
2. Submit the WordPress sitemap
Modern WordPress provides a sitemap index at /wp-sitemap.xml unless it has been disabled or replaced. Open it publicly first, then submit it in Search Console → Sitemaps.
3. Inspect the homepage
Use URL Inspection for the canonical HTTPS homepage. If the live test is available and there is no blocking issue, Google can crawl it. Google recommends ensuring the homepage is indexed because normal site navigation helps discovery of other pages.
4. Request indexing selectively
Use Request indexing for a small number of important new or materially changed URLs. A sitemap is the better discovery mechanism for many pages. Repeatedly requesting the same URL does not guarantee faster indexing.
5. Understand “Discovered – currently not indexed”
It means Google knows the URL but has not indexed it yet. For a new site, time is normal. Google’s documentation says crawling and indexing are not instant and not every submitted page is guaranteed to be indexed.
6. Check the Pages report later
Look for patterns rather than trying to force every URL into the index. Fix pages blocked unintentionally, broken URLs you link to, and important pages with genuine crawl problems.
